Hello Friends,
As the sun sets a little earlier each day and the whispers of the coming winter begin to weave through the air, it's easy to get lost in the rapid pace of change. Yet, it’s these moments that beckon us to pause and reflect. So, here I am, cup in hand and heart full, ready to share with you "My Friday Five" — a weekly rendezvous where I peel back the layers of the past week to reveal the simple joys and profound gratitude that keep the fires of my spirit burning bright.
What I’m Grateful for: The generosity of family has been a beacon this week. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law and their crew journeyed from Ohio with a spirit of camaraderie and skill. Their hands and hearts worked tirelessly. In a matter of less than 36 hours, their crew installed a 50ft French drain, dug trenches on either side of our driveway that washed out two storms ago, and even surprised us by installing a shower in our barn bathroom - it's turning into an actual bunkhouse!
Greenhouse Happenings: This week was a gentle reminder of the grace my body can sometimes afford me. No major MCAS flares came knocking, allowing me to spend some time in the greenhouse preparing for the first freeze of the season. I managed to get everything into the greenhouse and protected just in time. It's these victories over the usual unpredictability of health that makes me pause and be deeply thankful.
What I’m Reading: "The Untethered Soul" by Michael A. Singer has once again found its way into my hands. This book is a soulful journey, much like retracing the steps of a well-worn path but finding new treasures along the way. Singer's words are a balm, gently urging one to sever the ties that bind us to our limitations and to live with an open heart. It’s a reminder to embrace the ebb and flow of life, to sit in the seat of self with grace and courage. The read is a homecoming, a return to truths whispered during my yoga teacher training days.
What I’m Planting: I've just planted some Fava beans—a thoughtful gift from a friend’s travels to Isreal. It seems like a particularly poignant time to honor her, her family, and her history. Good for the soul and good for the soil. Fingers crossed for a good germination rate after two years in the seed stash.
What I’m Watching: I just finished the Netflix series, Bodies. It was SUCH a ride. A confluence of complexity, intrigue, and a dash of sci-fi, it was a series that courted my curiosity at every step — something that speaks directly to the nerd in me.
Until next week, lovelies.
Love,
Jess
