This week, I join the brilliant folks at the Autistic Culture Podcast to talk about something Iโve never really unpacked this publicly before โ what itโs like to navigate Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) as a neurodivergent person.
๐ง ๐ฆ
If youโve been with me for a while, you know my MCAS diagnosis came after a perfect storm of Covid, mold exposure, and long-standing nervous system overload. What you might not know is that my healing โ and my entire understanding of this condition โ shifted dramatically when I started looking at it through the lens of neurodivergence.
Hereโs the thing:
I donโt think we can fully heal MCAS (or POTS, or Long Covid) without talking about the nervous system.
And I donโt think we can fully regulate the nervous system without understanding how autistic and ADHD brains are wired differently.
Thatโs the heart of what we explored in this episode.

๐ Navigating MCAS on the Autistic Culture Podcast
We covered:
What mast cells actually do (hint: theyโre like bodyguardsโฆ with abandonment issues)
Why so many autistic folks are now being diagnosed with MCAS
The connection between sensory overload, adrenaline, and histamine flares
How trauma and medical gaslighting make symptoms worse
And practical tools that helped me move from survival to stability
If youโre new to this conversation, or just starting to suspect MCAS might be behind your chronic symptoms, this episode might be a lightbulb moment. And if youโve been down this road for a while, I hope it reminds you: youโre not imagining it, youโre not alone, and youโre not broken.
Weโre just living in a world thatโs too loud, too fast, and full of inflammatory inputs.
And our bodies โ especially our sensitive, intelligent, neurodivergent bodies โ are trying to tell us the truth.
With nuance and nerdiness,
Jess
