Dear friends, fellow foodies, and farmsteaders,
I hope this message finds you well, perhaps desperately trying to tend the gardens that wilt before our eyes in this relentless heat. I know I am. Today, I want to share an exciting new chapter in our journey together – one that might surprise those of you who only know me for food and farmsteading, but I hope will intrigue and inspire you as much as it does me.
As many of you know, Eat Between the Lines has been my way of sharing my love for food, plants, and sustainable living. From greenhouse builds to permaculture guilds to plant passions, we've explored the richness of farmstead life together. What you might not know is that parallel to my life on the farm, I've been immersed in the tech world, tackling complex challenges and navigating the unique journey of being a woman in STEM.
Yes, you read that right. By day, I'm a total techie, deep in the world of digital innovation. By night (and weekends), I'm the foodie and farmsteader you've come to know. These two worlds might seem oceans apart, but they're more connected than you might think.
Recently, as I've battled some rare health challenges (which some of you know about from my previous posts), I've had a revelation: the work-life balance we're all chasing? It's a MYTH. What we really need is resilience – the ability to adapt, thrive, and find fulfillment in all aspects of our lives.
This realization has led me to sharing a different part of my life with you: exploring the intersection of technology, psychology, and human well-being. I completely immersed in how our digital world shapes our thoughts, feelings, and actions through a discipline called Cyberpsychology. And I've developed something called the 7 Arcs of Human Existence, a framework for building resilience in our tech-saturated world that takes us back to the very basics of the human condition, layer by layer.
Now, you might be wondering, "What does this mean for Eat Between the Lines?" Don't worry – I'm not abandoning our farmstead roots. Instead, I'm expanding our horizons. In the coming months, you'll see a blend of content:
The farmstead stories and tips you've come to love (because let's face it, work in the garden is never done!)
Insights into how technology is shaping our lives, and how we can use it mindfully
Practical strategies for building resilience in our always-on world
Explorations of how our connection to nature (like through farming) can help us navigate the digital age
Think of it as “where tech meets nature and mindfulness.” We'll explore how the principles of regenerative agriculture can apply to our digital lives, how to cultivate mental resilience like we cultivate our gardens, and how to find balance in a world that's constantly pinging for our attention.
I know this is a shift, and I understand if it's not what you signed up for initially - no hard feelings. But I do hope you'll stick around. In a world that’s quickly becoming equally more digitally connected and less personally connected, we need to bring together diverse knowledge – from soil to circuit board, basil to binary code, comfrey to computers – to create a more resilient, ethically-minded future.
In the spirit of transparency that you've come to expect from me, I want to let you know that I'm also working on a new platform where we can dive deeper into these topics. I'll share more about that soon, but for now, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this new direction.
Are you intrigued? Confused? Excited? Let me know in the comments. Your feedback will help shape our journey forward.
Here's to new adventures in farmsteads and tech frontiers,
Jess
I love it, and I am excited to read what you share!
